RE: Todays Project - What did you do today? - f350ca - 08-23-2014 Sorry more wood but mechanical too. That last batch of logs I was gifted came with a monster, 32 inches at the stump, overly heavy with all the moisture we've got this summer. Couldn't pick it up on the forks so tried slinging it behind them. Got it moved to the mill but the hydraulics would only bring it about 8 inches off the ground. Dropped the forks and that made the difference. The full of the mill too. RE: Todays Project - What did you do today? - TomG - 08-23-2014 That's a gnarly looking trunk Greg, it should have some interesting grain. What kind of wood is it? Tom RE: Todays Project - What did you do today? - f350ca - 08-23-2014 White pine Tom, grew in a cemetery so lots of limbs right to the ground. Sawing it into 1x10's for siding, a slightly smaller log from this batch yielded 23 1x10's. Being pine Im surprised at the weight. There was one bigger log, the tree service blocked it into firewood, he couldn't lift it with his bigger tractor. RE: Todays Project - What did you do today? - f350ca - 08-23-2014 Was going to comment on your son traveling by himself, your right not a good idea BUT the dog and I do it all the time. Haven't had to walk out yet but one of these days it will happen. RE: Todays Project - What did you do today? - f350ca - 08-23-2014 Cut that log into 3 pieces, two 6 inch slabs and a 10 inch thick centre section. Then reduced it to 29 - 1x10s and 6 1x6's This years sawing. Its another storage shed in kit form. Had to move my piles into the future blacksmith shop. We've been getting so much rain the 6x6 red pine was moulding. Sprayed it down with bleach, hopefully it will dry in here with a fan going. Haven't had to walk out yet but one of these days it will happen. He's old enough to make these decisions himself now and hopefully he learned a lesson from this one. It took him nearly six hours to get himself and the bike out of the woods and he didn't get hurt. Sometimes experience is the best teacher. Tom RE: Todays Project - What did you do today? - Mayhem - 08-24-2014 Painted the particle board that I recently lined one wall of my shop with. It looks pink in this picture but it is white! I need to put on another coat. [attachment=9137] Also made up a filler that will sit between the board and the frame for the A/C unit. The funny looking bit at the bottom if for the cable, as I mounted the switches by the door. [attachment=9138] I need to upgrade the lights next. This area was storage only, so I have single fluro battens installed. I have some dual units that I need to bring home and install. Possibly next week... RE: Todays Project - What did you do today? - RobWilson - 08-24-2014 Looks PINK ! to me Darren ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,its ok to be in touch with your feminine side if you want a pink shop you go for it mate Rob RE: Todays Project - What did you do today? - DaveH - 08-24-2014 DaveH RE: Todays Project - What did you do today? - Mayhem - 08-24-2014 |
