RE: Log Splitter - DaveH - 01-26-2015 That will be well within the tolerances I work to DaveH RE: Log Splitter - DaveH - 01-27-2015 I decided I would make a video showing the cutting of the wedge 'pointy bit' Mmm - I think I must have lost my presence of mind I needed to do a couple of trial takes (I'm not Doubleboost) In fact I did about 5. Setting it up on the tripod, making sure nothing hits the camera, the lighting and making sure I'm videoing what I want to show. Did a few cuts - start the video ............beep beep beep battery low Battery don't last log when taking video's and of course can't take the battery out without taking it off the tripod Hard work this video thing. I try again tomorrow because it sure was a trying day today DaveH RE: Log Splitter - DaveH - 01-28-2015 This is what I'm using to cut the wedge pointy bit. [attachment=9939] [attachment=9940] It's a 25 (1") dia insert end mill. As you can see I only use 2 inserts at a time directly opposite each other. Trying to use 4 is a little too much for my RF30 mill. I should mention those inserts are probably past their sell by date I'm using 1550 rpm and depth of cut is 1mm (0.040") and the feed rate is (as fast as I think is should be ) I'll measure it On the mill [attachment=9941] The videos - done quite a few about 11 of which 10.5 are crap. But I'm slowly getting there,............... one would think at my age (33) I would be able to do a decent video Any chance............... John (Doubleboost) you could nip over for a couple of days - bring your video camera and Debs DaveH RE: Log Splitter - DaveH - 01-28-2015 And now for the video I measured the feed rate (roughly) and it is about 470mm/min (18.5"/min) DaveH RE: Log Splitter - DaveH - 01-28-2015 .................... But wait there's more another video in 'slow motion' this time It looks like the spindle is going backwards ........ I can assure you it's not DaveH RE: Log Splitter - EdK - 01-28-2015 (01-28-2015, 03:35 PM)DaveH Wrote: ... one would think at my age (33) I would be able to do a decent video,,, Dave, That 33 must be metric. It's half right DaveH RE: Log Splitter - EdK - 01-28-2015 (01-28-2015, 05:19 PM)DaveH Wrote:(01-28-2015, 05:13 PM)EdK Wrote:(01-28-2015, 03:35 PM)DaveH Wrote: ... one would think at my age (33) I would be able to do a decent video,,, Yes, that makes sense. 66 sounds more like it. Ed RE: Log Splitter - stevec - 01-29-2015 Dave, those inserts look to be older than both of us. Steve RE: Log Splitter - Mayhem - 01-29-2015 How much metal are you removing Dave. It looks like a long, long process at that rate. I'd be tempted the remove the bulk with an angle grinder or perhaps send it to Bob. I have a feeling he could file faster... |
