In theory it should work but it probably won't. I usually mic a part do as you say then set the dro as a rough setting. First cut never agrees exactly.
Things working against you.
Chuck run out is probably the big one, where are you on the sweep.
How hard are you pressing the cutter against the part
Slack in spindle bearings , small but it all adds up
Spring in the whole system
