RE: Making An Outboard Spider - SnailPowered - 09-25-2012 I still don't understand what this is for but the machining looks great! I can't wait to play with my lathe and see what kinds of things I need to make myself for it RE: Making An Outboard Spider - EdK - 09-25-2012 (09-25-2012, 12:16 AM)SnailPowered Wrote: I still don't understand what this is for but the machining looks great! Ed RE: Making An Outboard Spider - DaveH - 09-25-2012 Nicely done Ed, DaveH RE: Making An Outboard Spider - f350ca - 09-25-2012 Ok another project, thanks. Would definitely be handy. RE: Making An Outboard Spider - EdK - 09-26-2012 This project taught me that I needed some new tools. I used a boring bar that I got long ago prior to knowing anything about insert boring bars. I only know a little more now but I digress. I got this boring bar some number of years ago. http://www.use-enco.com/CGI/INSRIT?PARTPG=INLMKD&PMPXNO=25444701&PMAKA=328-6181 And a couple of these inserts. http://www.use-enco.com/CGI/INSRIT?PARTPG=INLMKD&PMPXNO=7908990&PMAKA=422-3064 I used those on the cat eye project and it was not the best for boring up to a shoulder so I just order this new boring bar, along with a couple of inserts, from Maritool, one of my favorite tool suppliers. http://www.maritool.com/Indexable-Tooling-Boring-Bars-Steel-Boring-Bars/c50_142_109/p381/SOLID-STEEL-BORING-BAR-.500-shank/product_info.html I much prefer the CCMT type of insert for over the "TP" type, but what the hell do I know. OK, I admit it. I'm a toolaholic. Ed RE: Making An Outboard Spider - f350ca - 09-26-2012 Quote:OK, I admit it. I'm a toolaholic. Ed Admitting you have a problem is supposed to be the first step to recovery, but I still don't see it as a problem. I guess I'll have to suffer with it for the rest of my life. Ed RE: Making An Outboard Spider - stevec - 09-27-2012 Ed, pardon my inability to decipher technicalese but what are the differences of the 4 ccmt inserts shown under that nifty looking boring bar. Steve, Two are designed with a carbide grade for stainless steel machining with a different tip radius on each. The other two are designed for cutting steel alloys with a different tip radius on each. Hope this helps. Ed RE: Making An Outboard Spider - stevec - 09-27-2012 Gotcha Ed, thanks. |
