John,
I think you can make it work. As long as you can bolt it down and not lose too much travel on the table then it should be usable. Bigger is usually better than smaller, at least that's what I've been told by the fairer sex. Did I just say that?

Yes it is. I ended up paying $450 for it from Enco w/free shipping.
The funny thing is, I bought the 6" (D675) at the same time and it sat in the box for two years before I ever needed to use it. The 4" handles 90% of anything I do on the mill.

If it too big or small all depends on the type of projects that you do. I like my 6 inch and it easily holds the 3 inch screwless vise for small projects as well as my small 1 inch screwless vise.
ED it's not how big or small your "vise" is but how you use it. Did I just say that??? tom
