Shapers are another machine that still has its place in the home shop ,, well i think so Rolleyes

,,, yes they can be slow when doing a finishing pass , but you can always do something else wile its doing its thing ,,, Tooling costs are minimal Big Grin

Rob,

Yes, that's so cool. I think shapers are an essential tool in the home shop. CNC has replaced them in most commercial shops but I think they are so versatile that every home metalworking shop should have one.

Nicely shown, looks good:):):)

They are a bit slow, excellent for taking the "skin" off castings.

I wonder how many just got thrown away. Because they never seemed to wear out.

That is a fantastic job I have not seen one like it anywhere you should consider patent and get someone to produce + sell it for you. I don't have a shaper feel like making one 4 me? how much? tom

As with most things in engineering my idea is not original ,,When i first posted my idea on Madmodder , it was pointed out to me that Bill Reichart had a very similar device http://littlemachineshop.com/products/product_view.php?ProductID=2304 .

I had came up with the idea after making a large Keats angle plate .

plenty different enough to be eligible for a patent, you would be surprised at how well an item like that would sell, you already have a first customer if you will make me one. tom

Hi Lads

Made a few more parts .

Thumb screws to lock the clamp bars in position .

And the reason for the slots ,,so i could position the clamp bolts were ever needed ,, in the original CAD model i had just a few tapped holes along each leg , knowing my luck first job they would be in the wrong place Slaphead
