RE: Myford lathe indexing attachment (head stock) - Mayhem - 05-19-2012 Excellent work there Rob and well photographed as well. I'm looking forward to seeing the rest of this project unfold. RE: Myford lathe indexing attachment (head stock) - RobWilson - 05-19-2012 Thanks Lads Next up the spindle bearings ,, these were all bored in the lathe with the set up below ,, this ensured that they were all in alinement when fixed to the spindle bracket . Outer bearing being machined . and the worm end bearing blocks . Then i made the index fingers ,,,,,,,, these as drawn would only open about 170 deg ,,,,,,,,, so a bit of a redesign and now they open to 270 deg stamped up the index plates . Next up the index arm mount ,,, this also needed a re design , as draw ,to lock it to the shaft a grub screw was used , straight onto the threads , not a good idea , so i made it clamp to the threaded shaft . Then onto the index arm ,,,,, changed this a bit as i have more rows of holes and i did not like the nut as drawn on the top of the knob , i decided to sink it into the knob for a better feel and look . made the index pin , this from silver steel/drill rod and hardened . And a few assembly shots of were i am up to . redesigned finger clamp , Rob RE: Myford lathe indexing attachment (head stock) - EdK - 05-19-2012 Rob, Nice work. If I didn't know better, I'd swear that was a store bought tool. Ed RE: Myford lathe indexing attachment (head stock) - krv3000 - 05-19-2012 tut at rob you cud of made the u clamp beater well posted and well dun rob RE: Myford lathe indexing attachment (head stock) - Wongster - 05-19-2012 Hello Rob, Are you able to show how you install this? Regards, Wong RE: Myford lathe indexing attachment (head stock) - RobWilson - 05-20-2012 Thanks Ed ,,,,, there is still a bit to do to get the indexer finished . Bob ,,,,,,,, ,,,,,, cheers . Wong ,,,,,,,,, i will take a photo of the indexer ruffle y in position on the lathe ,,,,, i still have a few parts to make Rob RE: Myford lathe indexing attachment (head stock) - DaveH - 05-20-2012 Rob, Very nice DaveH RE: Myford lathe indexing attachment (head stock) - Wongster - 05-20-2012 I'm always wondering this; would you bear to use the completed work? Like most of the work I've seen online, I would think that you would put them in show case for show. Painful to see grease or even specks of dirt on them. RE: Myford lathe indexing attachment (head stock) - RobWilson - 05-20-2012 Thanks Dave Wong ,,,,,,,,,,,I make tools to be used but they still do get looked after ,,,, here are a few mock up shots for you , to show how it will be fitted to the lathe , i still have a bit to do before the project is finished . All it dose is turn the lathe headstock into a dividing head , so when used with other attachments ,like the slotting attachment i made (another story ) Parts like this can be made . new gear for cub lathe . SS Steering wheel boss. To index these parts i used a direct index attachment ,that indexes the 60T bull wheel . (not my idea) which will do any number that goes into 60. Disengaged . Engaged with tooth ,,, i marked every tenth tooth to make counting easier . Good thing about this is there is no need to remove it from the lathe , as its thinner than the cover stops . The reason for making the new worm indexing attachment ,is so i have a better rang of divisions . God i can waffle on Rob RE: Myford lathe indexing attachment (head stock) - EdK - 05-20-2012 Rob, I like your waffling so keep it up. Ed |
