RE: ENCO is going away... - Roadracer_Al - 06-18-2016 I used to get the MSC "Big Book" and the Enco full catalog. I would also compare products and prices side-by-side. I could see absolutely zero benefit to ordering from MSC. RE: ENCO is going away... - Dr Stan - 06-18-2016 (06-18-2016, 09:30 AM)TomG Wrote: It works now. Must have been a hiccup last night. Had forgotten about J&L until you mentioned them. I purchased form them, not much but some at least, and I agree they were far superior to MSC. I'd just as soon buy from McMaster rather than MSC as the prices are about the same and shipping & delivery to KY is much faster and cheaper as they use the UPS KY hub. Many times overnight and only paying slow boat freight prices. RE: ENCO is going away... - PixMan - 06-19-2016 MSC is buying up as many companies as they can. If you can't beat 'em, buy 'em! That happened a LONG time ago with Enco, so I'm surprised it lasted this long. Up here in Massachusetts they bought American Tool Supply 5 years ago. That was a big deal up here and in North Carolina where they had a satellite office. The staff at the ATS headquarters was kept, as was the building and the one next to it that houses American Tool Grinding. We'll see how things change after July when all the 5-year agreements with sales people expire. Several have already bailed. There was an Enco warehouse up in Nashua NH for a time, it disappeared shortly after me & my dad picked up his drill press about 10 or 12 years ago. Expect more "consolidations" as they go forward. RE: ENCO is going away... - ScrapMetal - 06-20-2016 For those worried about pricing, I just got an e-mail from MSC/Enco that states that MSC would now be using Enco pricing. We'll just have to wait and see if they follow through. They were about my third choice to order from anyway but I always compare prices against them. Quote:*Receive the same price you paid on all the products your purchased from Enco during the past 12 months, for one full year. RE: ENCO is going away... - Vinny - 06-20-2016 That was the fine print on the webpage that was posted. RE: ENCO is going away... - Mayhem - 06-21-2016 I'm thinking of buying a set of screw machine length drills. I picked up a Hertel all in one wire, letter and fractional set for a friend a few years back, and they have proved to be good quality. I would like to grab a metric set in 0.5mm increments as well. I guess I had better do it when I am there in September... I did get an email today advising me that my account has been migrated to MSC. I have several different sets of jobber length drills and find the screw machine length drills are always the first thing I reach for any more. (Other than a spotting drill.) You don't have to worry about them flexing or wobbling around when starting a fresh hole. And if I need a deeper hole I'll still start with screw length then switch to the jobber length. You will love them. Ed RE: ENCO is going away... - Mayhem - 06-22-2016 I looked at the screw machine length drills after I logged in and the list prices were the same as those listed when I looked last week on the Enco site. ($376.78 versus $620.82, which is about 40% less than the MSC list price). However, when I went to the checkout, it asked if I wanted to apply both the 25% and 30% off coupons. Of course, I accepted but it didn't make any difference to the checkout total! I didn't buy them but I know that sometimes the discount isn't applied until checkout, which is why I checked. Apparently, this isn't the case with MSC. I guess it was too much to expect a final checkout price of $169.55 plus shipping for a full set of metric (1-13mm), fractional (1/16-1/2"), letter (A-Z) and wire gauge (#1-#60) drills. Would have been nice though Here in Australia a vendor has to honour a price/discount if it is advertised, regardless of whether it is a mistake or not. Is this the same in the US? |
