Tom, thanks for your advice, that was kinda my plan but I wanted to get advice and ideas, which I did. The most useful might be to make a square land for the O-ring. That makes great sense. Thanks to all and feel free to add your two cents!

Mike, the 2mm inserts you have don't have the radial clearance needed for that small of a face groove. They are too tall.

I use Micro 100 (brand) solid carbide grooving tools. They are made for the task. Also, be careful with the depth. I don't know the material of the O-ring you have in mind but most are firm enough that only .005" to .007" squeeze is all you need. There are charts for the recommended squeeze on a given cross section size of the O-ring, I'll see if I can find one. The chart I use is a dog-eared card I have with the big box of O-rings I have at the shop... and I'm at home.

This site seems to be a cornucopia of O-ring information.

Well, I did the job before I red Ken's reply. I think I did OK. The tubes are made to drop in as is, but that was not good enough for me. The O-ring is just to hold the tubes snug to prevent the annoying rattle. Here are some pictures of the job. I first mocked up a section of the tube and put an O-ring on it to check for fit and final dimensions, since I kinda winged it.

FWIW Mike, I've had trouble with Photobucket links today too. On one of the audio video enthusiast sites that I now spend (too much) time on, I had posted photos of a tidying up of the wiring behind my AV stand that I did today. Being a different forum software than is used here, the error message was different but the result the same...no pictures appear. And I posted them exactly the same way I always do.

I'll try posting one here now, here goes (caution, if it works it's completely off topic):

Nuts. Same result. It's a problem with Photobucket. I just tried looking at these posts on this site using 3 different browsers, IE11, Firefox 45.0.2 and MS Edge. All show the same issue so it must be Photobucket.

Searching the web, Photobucket is definitely having a problem! This is very bad.

Well, some hours later and a posting on the Photobucket Facebook page...they fixed it! Whew. All your photos are showing now, I deleted mine as it's out of context.

I missed all that! I did not know that my pictures weren't showing up. Ignorance is bliss, that's why I'mso happy. Lol
