RE: Arbor press parts - Vinny - 09-26-2015 You can get a 1 ton arbor press like that from Harbor Freight for about $30. That pic looks like it's the HF press. I have the 1/2 ton version. We cannot get a 1 ton cheap Chinese arbor press for less than $100 here. RE: Arbor press parts - EdK - 09-26-2015 (09-26-2015, 07:22 PM)Mayhem Wrote: You guys suck! ... Affirmative. Ed RE: Arbor press parts - Dr Stan - 09-27-2015 I've cut plenty of gear racks on a vertical mill using a horizontal milling attachment. If that is not available check on the availability of spur gear racks from Boston Gear. I purchased spur gear blanks from BG when I was rebuilding my vertical mill power feed unit and did not yet have the capability to cut gears. BTW, it was much cheaper than buying the necessary gear cutters. RE: Arbor press parts - Kennyv - 09-28-2015 thanks something to think about . Now i have a good idea what ill do when i get to that project . Btw im taking on as a project and want to make the tool and part, than heat treat na i dont wnat to buy and parts esp for the free cheapo press that it is ..Looks like i have two options and both will work . Onc is to bolt stock on fixture / angle plate mill vertically. ill prob cut in mill with fly cutter rotate mill head 90 deg. Most likely ill cut similar to a large deep acme thread i once cut on lathe. Ill cut to full depth with one tool than come back with and cut the sides with a finishing tool. thanks again for the ideas RE: Arbor press parts - Roadracer_Al - 09-29-2015 While it's true that cutting a long rack on a vertical mill with a fly cutter is difficult because of interference with the head, it's not impossible. I've never done this, but it's possible to hold the rack vertically, tilt the head to 30*, and grind your fly cutter with the correct shape to include the 30* offset. The rack should miss the head.
