RE: Vice rebuild - stevec - 08-10-2015 Don't worry about the threads in bronze/brass/brazing, in that application you're "golden" Greg. Steve RE: Vice rebuild - f350ca - 08-10-2015 Seems the consensus is brazing it so we'll give it a go. Now just need to find the time. Anthony, you mentioned building a dam around it, what material would I use. RE: Vice rebuild - Mayhem - 08-11-2015 I believe reinforced concrete is the most widely used material in damn building Greg I'd get the vice nice and warm first. I stuck mine in the bbq and closed the lid. I left it there whist I brazed it and then close the lid once finished so it could cool slowly. RE: Vice rebuild - ieezitin - 08-11-2015 Graphite plate stock is used to build the dam.. not cheap but can be continually used if treated with care. it can be machined as well. I believe if you smoke steel the braze will not adhere to it either, smoking is running an acetylene flame with no oxygen turned on over steel leaving a thick black carbon layer deposited. Anthony. RE: Vice rebuild - mattmcp - 08-18-2015 Greg, Are you near Ottawa? I have a pound or three of Ni99 rod you can have. PM me if interested. |
