Will do Dave. Just as soon as you gift me a surface grinder.... Big Grin

Until then, I'll just have to keep buying my centers. Blush
I've got another big bulky import live center that came with my lathe that has a nice scar around the point. Note to self: Watch the right side of the tool tip as well when taking a facing cut between centers! Bash

I thought some one on here did a post on a small rotating center. I have searched and couldn't find anything - so may be I just dreamed it Big Grin
It could have been Bob (kvr3000) refurbishing one ???

RE: Extended point live centres - Dr Stan - 09-10-2014

Has anyone thought about modifying a standard live center into an extended point version? Sure should be less work than starting from scratch.

Great, just gave myself another project. Bash

I have one, but I think mine is Chinese. For the number of times I use it, it should be OK though I will always wish I'd bought a better one. You know I like to run the tools on my lathe hard. ;)

RE: Extended point live centres - Mayhem - 09-11-2014

That is an interesting thought Stan.

How hard does the tip need to be given that it is rotating with the work? I'm not sure how hard my current cheap Chinese one is but I too have a scar on it from retracting the carriage back a little too far.

Too bad your tailstock is MT4 Ken, otherwise I may have stuffed your extended point centre in my suitcase whilst you weren't looking Big Grin
