I was looking to see what angle iron I have.
40x2
40x3
40x5
30x5
25x3
The only 6mm thick is some 25x6 - could I use this or do we think the sides are too short being 25mm long.

All the press brakes I have seen and worked with have a small bottom 'V' may be 1/2" deep, most had a maximum capacity of 2mm thick steel.
So do I need the 'V' to have long sides - does it help to bend the odd 5mm thick piece of steel?

it depends on how thick the material is that your bending as to how narrow the die can be. the thicker the plate the wider the die needs to be to lower the force that is needed to allow the plate to bend.

Most will be 2- 3mm thick but there may be the occasion when I want to bend some 5mm thick say by 30mm wide - small brackets.
