Make a set of tapered wedges that are thick enough to drive in between the spindle and the center and wedge the center out. you should be able to do it with just one wedge.

If you know a mechanic, he should have a ball joint separator, which he may be willing to let you borrow. Or he may do it for you.

You might try a ball joint tool for auto's , depends on the size you need , you can rent them at places like autozone ,etc . Hope this helps !

Yes, the wedge (ball joint tool) is a good idea. You should be able to make one to fit perfectly without too much trouble. That's how drill chucks are removed from their arbors.

If you can get hold of it try Kroil. ™

soak it and whack it with the wedge action as described. if it went in its gonna come out.

I'm trying to make the 2 pc wedge tool posted on Madmodder. Just realized that I do not have any steel plates around. Would aluminium do? I'll try to make it with the aluminium plates I've around for practice. Been off machining for a while.

On the slope surface, any advice on how i can machine it?

I would think that aluminium might be too soft but if you have some scrap around it is worth a try. Place it in your vise so the angle runs parallel to the top of the vise. The angle has to be close enough, not spot on.

Hello guys,

Good news for me! The aluminium wedge works!!! I only made the 2 pcs of wedge, put the stuck spindle/live centre in the slot and hammer away with a mallet. Not too much force required to break the grip.

Hahaha... I'm a happy man. Saved SGD200 over dollars of replacement cost!

HopefulDave, can i have your permission to post your drawings on my blog? Though my "tool" is just part of what you drawn out, I want to document the wedge. Please....

Thank you all you guys!!!
