RE: 32x40 H Gas Engine - TomG - 04-10-2014 It's in there...somewhere. That looks like a lot of potential chips Brian. Tom RE: 32x40 H Gas Engine - stevec - 04-11-2014 Brian, I'm not nitpicking here, but, by "iron" do you mean what we "Americans" call steel? Or are they in fact cast iron? RE: 32x40 H Gas Engine - TomG - 04-11-2014 Do you mean like aluminum vs. aluminium? RE: 32x40 H Gas Engine - Brian - 04-11-2014 Hi Steve . Don't worry about the question's that's why we have a Forum. The material is Meehanite iron made in continuously cast bar It has no blow holes or inclusions,, Good quality iron. Looking forward to the next question. Brian. RE: 32x40 H Gas Engine - dallen - 04-11-2014 same as Durabar its a continuous cast Iron that is beautiful to work with. RE: 32x40 H Gas Engine - Brian - 04-16-2014 Well Lads the first chips are flying, As I do not have a reliable mill vice I used my dividing head to provide a vertical plane and 3-2-1- blocks to keep things square. The first job was to shape up the material for the cyl head. [attachment=8141] After getting it square I reduced the area underneath so the real work could be done at a later date. [attachment=8142] The next job will be to rough out the piston and liner blanks. Dirty stuff this iron, Chips fly everywhere. Brian RE: 32x40 H Gas Engine - krv3000 - 04-16-2014 this is gowing to be good RE: 32x40 H Gas Engine - EdK - 04-16-2014 (04-16-2014, 03:45 PM)krv3000 Wrote: this is gowing to be good I agree Bob. This is going to be a good one. Ed RE: 32x40 H Gas Engine - DaveH - 04-17-2014 DaveH RE: 32x40 H Gas Engine - Brian - 04-18-2014 So it's on to the next part. I set up the material for the liner and piston in the lathe, and turned it down to near the size required for the liner then reduced the end for the piston. [attachment=8146] I am uncertain as to whether I will use the liner as a chucking piece while i make the piston or mount the piston blank on a spigot In my ER collet?? We have visitors coming for Easter so work will come to a halt for a few days Brian. |
