I certainly couldn't afford a Dorian here. Perhaps I'll just paint my Tools4Cheap one red (or it is crimson) and put a billiard ball on the handle Big Grin

Was your Aloris tool post a wedge type or the piston style? I have the older Dorian (CA size) on my lathe, and like it a lot. I've used Aloris tool posts and tool holder blocks before and find that they were just a bit smoother. I just can't recall right now what type of clamping they used.

Ken,

the Aloris is a wedge type. The Dorian seems to be tighter to slide the tool blocks on, the handle lock very quickly. the wedge moves very little before it grabs. The Aloris seems to have a much longer/wider handle swing from full open to locked. It works okay, but the Dorian looks and feels better made, could be a buyer's wish.

After a couple of weeks, the Dorian seem fine, still not sure its better than the Aloris, but surely not any worse
