RE: wood grain filler - TomG - 03-31-2013 Here's a pic of the stock on my Steven's with just two coats of Tung oil. I like to leave a bit of the grain showing so it looks like wood. I'll probably put a couple more coats on when everything is finished. Tom RE: wood grain filler - dallen - 04-03-2013 here's one of the pieces that I'm trying to make its still got a lot of sanding left in it, but I think you'll get the Idea wish the butt stock had some of this character. RE: wood grain filler - doubleboost - 04-03-2013 Some very nice bits of wood there Years ago I had a nice .410 shot gun with a very plain beech stock A gun smith friend of mine stripped off the varnish Pus some marks on the wood with a maker pen burned it in a few places Stained it then finished it with oil The transformation was amazing You still can not beat walnut for a gun stock John RE: wood grain filler - TomG - 04-03-2013 Looking good David. That's the nice thing about oil. You can oil a part as you shape it to see how it's coming along. Tom |
