RE: Let's See Your Shop - sasquatch - 09-24-2013 I wondered about the rat tail file thing also. Thought it must have super coarse threads. Lol RE: Let's See Your Shop - LJP - 09-24-2013 Yes, I meant a small triangular file. Come to think of it, I call all small "needle files" rat tail. I am descibing the size, more than the shape. I have hundreds of them. RE: Let's See Your Shop - oldgoaly - 09-24-2013 (09-24-2013, 11:26 AM)LJP Wrote: I have hundreds of them. Rats or Files???? Nice shop! Updated pix - PixMan - 09-29-2013 I had posted some photos of the shop last year in Post #15 of this thread, many of the photos taken April 23rd of 2010. Until about 9 weeks ago the shop hadn't changed much, other than getting the surface grinder. Then my dad bought me the Alliant mill, knowing he'd probably never get to use it. He didn't. When my dad passed and the shop became exclusively mine, I knew I had to make changes to be able to move forward. This is one photo I never shared, but shows how some areas of Dad's shop had gotten to be: After 3 days with Darren visiting and making chips on every machine in there, I needed to do a quick re-do. This is the result of the massive cleanup, most of which happened before the Australian visitor came: Quite a difference on the workbench. I can actually use it now, and the vise upgrade has been heaven. Just to be able to find things (other than the tool that was just in my hand a minute ago) has been very gratifying for the long hours I put into the cleanup. RE: Let's See Your Shop - EdK - 09-29-2013 What a transformation! Time well spent though. Ed RE: Let's See Your Shop - LJP - 09-29-2013 Nice shop Ken! RE: Let's See Your Shop - Mayhem - 09-29-2013 I would have loved to help clean up on the Wednesday Ken but I did have a flight to catch. I did put the tools I used away You need to take some more pics of that vise, as these do not do it justice. That thing is massive and I walked into it twice! Ken has an extremely well equipped and maintained shop and it is always a joy to spend time in there with him. RE: Let's See Your Shop - PixMan - 09-29-2013 Thanks guys, much appreciated. Darren, that was so much fun to make stuff, I just wish we had at least one more day. Two would have been even better. My shop is open to any members who want to come visit and perhaps work on a project. The shop is only slightly better than average in terms of equipment. I still don't have any place to put the welding I want to add, both MIG and TIG. When the shop moves out to my own home in a year or two it's going from 16x25 feet to most of the cellar of my home that is 24x50 feet. On the up side of that move is the increased space. On the down side is losing the natural light and heat of the current space. RE: Let's See Your Shop - stevec - 09-29-2013 Ken, if I were to send you the airline tickets would you come and stay a few days ?? RE: Let's See Your Shop - Micktoon - 09-29-2013 I am VERY impressed Ken .....You sure did get the place transformed there. I hope to one day do a similar post of my shop but only have the messy before type photos at the moment ........... one day .......one day Cheers Mick |
