Ah, I see what you're saying. I'll need to do some stress tests on it and see how it performs. I thought 1/2" would be plenty stout but maybe not.

I'll echo Tom's advice Ed, check it out, if it's good enough for your needs fine but I've experience what Tom mentioned about "springiness".

Thanks Steve. I'm going to do some stress tests shortly and if I have to make a new larger rod then so be it.

started trying to learn a new Cad-Cam software package that I bought and received last Friday, which I think is trying to cause me to go blind from sitting in front of this monitor.
Anyway what I was going to say was that I got this in the mail yesterday. and seeing as how I didn't want to start a new thread here's the required photo of my latest pocketwatch that I have been lucky enough to get ahold of. Have to find a minute hand for it.

That's a pretty fancy dial, let alone the hands. It's probably going to be a challenge to find one I'll bet.

It doesn't need a minute hand. A whole hour will pass in the time you sit there just looking at the detail.

Ed its the same movement, I just cleaned up the face of the dial and put it in a case that I had, this makes it look a 100 % better, I also took a decent photo of it.
Tom, I already have a minute hand located that I hope will fit, same design as the Waltham hands but its for an Elgin so I may have to ream out the hole that fits onto the Cannon. either way I also have a set of Waltham Blue Steel hands that are in excellent shape so I may put them on it for now.
I found out today while cleaning the movement that both of the balance jewels are cracked, and need to be replaced, so I will have to be careful of how much I run it or I take a chance of ruining the pinions on the Balance Arbor.

That watch face is a thing of beauty , very classy looking without being flash, I think they did that style of things better in the old days , What sort of date is the watch ?
Hope you manage to get the parts to return it to tip top condition

According to a few posters i have seen on other sites they could whip up a new hand identical to that (even with the patina), in an hour or less.
