Band Saw Light - EdK - 03-24-2024 I've had this light sitting around for quite some time now. I originally bought it for a different use but that didn't work out so well so I decided to eventually get it installed on the band saw. That day has finally arrived. I still need to wire it in but most of the work is done now. Mine is temperamental; I think the wire might have a break. I'm also a bit disappointed in the light output, but I will say that the diffuser is nice, causing less glare. It wasn't worth my effort for the minor gain in convenience. I threw the light in the trash. Ed RE: Band Saw Light - rleete - 08-17-2024 Wow, that's a lot of work to just scrap. I guess you're even more disappointed than me. I have another light that I stick to my mill column. It's magnetic. Also, straight 110V, so easy to plug in anywhere. I guess I will get another one of them. Link: https://www.ebay.com/itm/365042963638 Best price I found. Also on Amazon for just under 30 bucks. Make sure you get one that is 10W. If anything, it's too bright, but more light is better than not enough RE: Band Saw Light - rubes - 08-17-2024 I have a similar one, with the same goose neck, on my mill. the goose neck is so limp it does not hold position. Although, now that I think about it, it could be due to the fact I have the base mounted such that the goose neck comes out horizontal. that is the area that will not stay put and sags. I was gonna try a couple of these: https://www.harborfreight.com/500-lumen-led-rechargeable-magnetic-handheld-foldable-slim-bar-work-light-59536.html But I dont like battery powered or rechargeable cause they are always dead when you need them. first world problems I guess. And there was still a lot more work to get it functional so I just took it off of my plate. The only reason I was going to install it was because I already had the light. I have a few of those HF lights and love them. Super strong magnet in the base and you have 3 light options. They are powered by a single 18650 cell and can be charged either through the USB-B port on the light itself, or you can just drop the battery out the back and put it in a desktop charger if you prefer. The light will last quite a long time on the low setting and you still get a good amount of light. SUPER bright on high, but of course you pay for that in reduced run time. They have a small sticker stuck to the bottom of the magnet that is meant to prevent scratches I suppose, that usually falls off in time. I just clean the remaining adhesive off of the magnet and carry on. I have a desktop charger that holds multiple 18650 cells and always have a stash of extra batteries charged and ready to go when needed. But once charged they hold it for a good long time. |
