Uh....no. Blush

Of course I'll be riding the bike in the morning and coming home to put it away and hop in the CAR. Two passengers, 2 small carry-on bags because though they've been in Chicago for a week, their luggage is traveling with her parents in their car. Strange, her father opted to drive the 1100 miles each way because he recently had hip replacement surgery and says he can't sit in an airplane seat for the 1-1/2 - 2 hours it takes to fly. Better to sit in an old beat up Pontiac for 2+ days each way, eh? 17428

Whatever.

This one's a little cheaper.

Whoops. Plain teeth. Staggered teeth seem to work better and even at Maritool I'm at $285 again.

Ed,

Here's the cutter with the new inserts in it, ready to go out on Monday.

And on it's good shell mill arbor.

Jack,

If you don't yet have a lead angle face mill (a true face mill), it's something you might want to put on the wish list. I can keep my eyes open for a deal for you. In fact, I know I might be able to get my hands on two similar cutters, though they are metric. The bores are 16 and 22 millimeter, cutter diameters 50 and 63. The commercial shop that has them got them as part of a tooling package with a new German made machine, and the inserts they got with the cutters are the steel & cast iron grade WKP35S. Since the shop machines 95% aluminum and they loathe metric tools, they haven't touched those cutters.

It's not terribly hard to find R8 metric shell mill arbors, though good quality ones like that are fairly scarce over here. I should probably try to get my hands on those two cutters (they also have a 40mm F4042 shoulder mill.)

Ken,

a while back I bought the F4041 Walter face mill from you (which I really love), is the design Edk is getting a better option? If so maybe I should consider it.

Consider it, Jack, as they do use less power than a shoulder mill like the F4041 that you have. Of course these are only good for milling flat faces and cannot get close to a shoulder. It can be used for milling a 45º weld prep and if you stop short of the first pass by the equivalent of your depth of cut, you're not limited to the length of the lead angle on the insert.

As stated in the very first post in this thread, the lead angle face mills give chip thinning effect so you can take a deeper cut or feed at a higher rate than you could at an equivalent width of cut with a 90º shoulder mill.

Yes, absolutely. There's a reason airlines are usually in the top ten most hated companies. They've earned their place alongside cable companies and banks.
